When the Oxford English Dictionary (OED) revised its definition of technology in 2009, it produced one of the worst dictionary definitions ever for a fundamental scholarly term. This results from the presence of a clear path from the problem to the solution through specifying the initial problem, defining a reference goal and alternatives to accommodate uncertainty, identifying functional approaches to transition from the initial problem to the solution, assessing the adequacy of existing technology, and supporting technology development only in those areas where technology is inadequate.
A systematic planning process should provide the framework for identification of technology development needs. Concomitantly, international joint ventures (IJVs) have been put forward as vehicles for change in the belief that contractors in developing countries can position themselves to receive technology from their developed counterparts. This ensures that after graduation they will be able to use the technology in a work setting, which may put them ahead of someone who didn’t have access to a particular technology or software in their own school setting. As technology advances, it is used to benefit students of all ages in the learning process.
The primary distinction between these two approaches is that the portions of the systems engineering process related to definition of a technology development program have been elaborated in the end state based approach to fulfill the purposes of this report.
In the Automated Innovation Revolution the process for determining how to acquire and utilize technology for a competitive advantage (which includes R&D) is automated so that it can be executed with unprecedented speed, efficiency and agility. Another problem for the decision-making view of engineering design is that in modern technology almost all design is done by teams.
Blockchain technology on its own has pointed the way to removing inefficiencies from the financial institutions’ administrative processes permanently. For example, by emphasising the story of technology, the creation process, and human involvement, DiGironimo’s definition of technology highlights social issues that may include notions of race, gender, and equity. Another strand of criticism states that the focus on risks has led to a reduction of the impacts of technology that are considered (Swierstra and Te Molder 2012). The mission of Technology Education is to be organized around a set of concepts, processes, and systems that are uniquely technological.
